ICD-10 Checklist White Paper for Lytec

  • Hardware & Software Requirements
    • Hardware
    • Software
      • Make sure your Lytec is version 2014 or 2015
      • Make sure you are sending electronic claims using Revenue Manager (ANSI5010)
  • Internal Training
    • Who should get trained?
      • Physician, Medical Staff, and Biller
      • Paper: If you are using a paper routing slip and have ICD-9 codes printed on the sheet, you might need to print new sheets.
      • Electronic: If the new Superbill will have too many ICD-10 codes you might want to consider the new Lytec Mobile App:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFLD4X4XkS0
        • This is a free app; however, you might need to invest in labor for the design and protecting your network/firewall as this app exposes your Lytec data by utilizing the internet.
    • Codes
      • Map the ICD-9 to ICD-10 codes using the mapping tools in Lytec 2014 or 2015
      • Set the ICD-10 date for your payer in Lytec
        • This is an optional tool that lets you flag which payers are ready for the ICD-10 date. This tool only gives you a red flag if you send ICD-9 after you setup an ICD-10 date for your insurance/payer.
    • Lookup Resource
      • Add on Encoder Pro for Lytec which will help you with coding lookups.
      • If the built-in ICD-10 mapping does not give you all the ICD-10 codes you need, consider adding Lytec Codes on Disk which gives you about 76,000 ICD-10 codes.
      • iPad app: consider an iPad app for the physician to lookup which codes to send or put down on the superbill

      • Other Recommended Resources:
    • EMR Documentation
      • Because ICD-10 is very specific, your documentation needs to reflect your coding. You might need to redesign your EMR templates to reflect such changes.
  • Testing
    • You should send out 1 – 5 claims using the new ICD-10 codes to Medicare. This will test your software scrubber, your clearinghouse and your insurance company. You don’t need to call us, your clearinghouse, or payer to send such a test.  Just make sure you track the claim, get paid without delay, and avoid timely filing issues at all cost.
  • Secure a line of Credit
    • Banks don’t give out money when you have to have it.  Secure the line of credit now and hopefully you won’t need it.
